Today I am going to tell you about one of my first experiences using a green screen for recording a video; and how I ended up editing it on iMovie. This has been a really fun experience that I’d like to share with you in this post.

Last year, I asked my dad to get me a green screen because I always wanted to try to make movies and shows, and a green screen makes it possible to realize many of the ideas I had for my videos. If you happen not to know what a green screen is, let me give you a brief explanation on what it is. A green screen is a green background which could even be a green curtain that you place behind you that when you edit it, you can change the green to a lake or a beach, or your favorite scene in a movie, this is what makes green screen’s so great! Well, anyways, my dad got me one and me and my sister Lana immediately started messing around with it. Making small clips with us dancing and editing in just some color backgrounds with some words. After that, for a while, I barely used the green screen. I basically made nothing for a whole year.

For the past two days, I have been learning more about the green screen and how to create a different background than just a green one. I hung the green screen on my bedroom wall using only two nails. After I hung it, I only got my phone and my phone stand and just started shooting random little clips. I would search up on google or on apple support “how to create a background for green screen on Imovie.” It would show me some results which made no sense to me and others that I could understand some things from them. Well, nothing really helped me that much, so I chose Plan B, YouTube!!! Which honestly, I should’ve used as Plan A because you can see the people literally pressing then buttons that you don’t know where they are on the website or the app that you are trying to make sense of. Well anyways, of course, YouTube gave me the answer and then I was able to change the green background to something that looks better. I did this on my iPad and the setting changed from a messy bedroom to a cool blueish background with some images on it, added on with some lights.

In the end, today, I created a video of me telling the story of one of the many versions of Cinderella. I have to tell you, it wasn’t the best product I could’ve ended up with, but it was good enough to my perspective. That was everything I wanted to tell you about today’s journey with me and the green screen, I will probably share more in this blog about the future creations that I will create with my green screen, but this is it for now.
