In the book New From Here, Ten-year-old Knox Wei-Evans doesn’t want to move to California without his dad and dog, but his parents decide that leaving Hong Kong will keep him and his siblings safe from the new virus that is spreading like wildfire across China and Europe. In California, Knox and his siblings Leah and Bowen go through many challenges like racism towards Asians, brother relationship problems, making friends, and keeping their parents close, by trying to bring their dad to California. To get him over, they need to earn money by, organizing a garage sale, helping out a restaurant stay in business, and trying to get him a job.
